September is a great month to get married. Why? Simply because you still get the “Summer” feel without the “Summer” heat and humidity we are accustomed to here in Maryland. That is exactly what Abigail and Bradley did – a near Fall wedding at the Hall-of-Famous’ Art Donovan’s Country Club mansion located just north of Baltimore City.
Abigail started off her day getting ready at her parent’s home in Columbia, Maryland, but arrived early at the Mansion to participate in a “First Look” photo session with Bradley, the Bridal Party, and family members. It was a beautiful day. The Mansion has suites to accommodate the men and the women to freshen up. Our First Look session took place outside in the garden, followed by an intimate ceremony indoors, then followed by a festive reception that occupied the ballroom as well as the terrace and balcony.
The luxurious mansion is a specialty venue that accommodates up to 220 guests. The ballroom, built in 1960, offers a 3,000 square foot dance floor. The romantic atmosphere is further enhanced by a designer tooling treatment, ceiling lights, beautifully gilded wall sconces and contemporary up-lighting. Everything in the mansion has been perfectly designed to provide the perfect backdrop for any wedding celebration or special event. All you have to do is “just add water” to the indoor and outdoor ceremony sites, fine German millwork, three working fireplaces, comfortable sitting parlors and cocktail room, grand victorian staircase, venetian chandeliers, fine antiques, spacious veranda with hanging floral baskets, and a variety of original oil paintings. It is a gem.
The mansion had an overall rustic and red-and-brown hue vintage antique feel, along with a staircase that screams “take a picture here!” Inside this gorgeous venue is wall-to-wall covered memorabilia of the famous Baltimore Colt Art Donovan with autographed “everything”, vintage jerseys (boy, the man was huge!), and a section to memorialize his famous father (a boxing referee) and grandfather (a hall-of-fame boxer). The art (no pun intended!), the jerseys, the autographs, photos of famous politicians and celebrities, and the colorful beverages and spirits made for the perfect textured backdrop in the Sports Bar.
The depth of this mansion offered the ideal location to shoot “getting ready”, “first look”, the ceremony and reception, as well as many other creative shots that captured Abigail and Bradley’s wedding day story in pictures.
