Hi, my name is Joey, and as a full-time professional wedding and portrait photographer, I’ve traveled the US and the world and have had the privilege to see and photograph amazing sights. As a perpetual student of photography, I have always been enamored by film and the art form ever since volunteering to be my high school’s yearbook photographer using my hand-me-down Nikon F camera. Yes, I was bit of a dork back in the day.
I’ve been serving couples & families throughout the US for almost 15 years. Photography for me is about connection and a deep-rooted relationship, told from a timeless, candid and authentic approach. It’s those natural, unplanned moments that become the stories we love to tell and photography is how I try to keep those stories alive.
My wife Jennifer and I enjoy the outdoors – hiking, taking long walks along the beach, or soaking up the sun at our two favorite beach towns in the world – Narragansett, Rhode Island and Sarasota, Florida, or sailing a catamaran in the Virgin Islands. I fell in love with Jennifer and realized that she is one of the most thoughtful, considerate, gracious, compassionate and intentional people I know. Without a doubt, she is my best friend.
Jennifer and I love competing in the kitchen trying to one-up each other with our culinary skills creating delightful cuisines and epicurean treats for ourselves or our guests. More recently, we taught ourselves to make Molcajete Mixto, a Mexican dish using a basalt molcajete bowl, and creating a creme de limoncello desert beverage. And if its not cooking, we love competing playing the game of Bananagrams. We are both active in our church – she walking alongside of women who need a faithful friend, and I walking alongside of men who need mentoring and life-giving words. Several times a month, we both serve at a local food bank – not so much to feel good about ourselves – but to be instruments of hope and to offer encouragement to those suffering in our communities.
Me: I’m married to my sweet and beautiful wife Jennifer
Business: I use a mature and methodical work-flow that assures success
Me: I love building walking/hiking sticks, kneading my own pizza and pasta dough, doing a walk or run on the beach, eating whole Maine lobsters, make home-made sushi, going to the gym, using only SPF 4, maintain a fish tank of angel fish, occasionally smoke hookah with friends on our deck, and hyper-organizing my recipes in my iPhone Notes App!
Business: In addition to my suite of digital cameras, including the stunning and newest camera – the Sony a9 – my current favorite camera is the medium format film camera – the Pentax 645Nii – giving wedding photos that creamy look that leaves clients stunned! In 2019, I traded in my entire and faithful Nikon gear to Sony’s mirrorless cameras. With these new face-recognition and eye-detecting cameras, it’s hard NOT to take a good photo!
Me: I’ve traveled 5 continents
Business: I do venue-walk-throughs with clients 1 month before their wedding
Me: My puppy’s name is Maizy. She only eats dog food 🙂 . She is by far my favorite pet – smart and will lick you to death.
Business: My favorite lens is the 85mm prime. It gives me those creamy, light and airy results
Me: I’m a Philadelphia Eagles fan (no hating on me Commanders/Redskins and Ravens fans!)
Business: I’m insured, backup images 3X, and use multiple professional-grade full frame medium format film cameras and lenses
Me: I love watching “Suits”, “The Office”, or “The Voice” while cuddling with my better half
Business: In addition to weddings, I’ve done plenty of portraiture, fashion, editorial, film / cinematography, drone, freelance for a glossy magazine, and do commercial work
Me: I love to serve hurting people in my church and community, even more so than my love for photography. Go figure
Business: I love me some Old Bay chicken wings, a good Moscow Mule or smoking hookah occasionally on my deck. Okay, that’s not business, but can you blame me?
Me: I’ve published a hard-cover memoir directed at my son – a book that shares my heart for him. I also built a home studio where my best friend and I record podcasts. I also enjoy world events, news, history, an occasional book, and deep and probing conversations that are redeeming and authentic, especially if they are taking place around a fire pit!
Business: Favorite bragging story is that I’ve done 12-connected-referral weddings starting with the first one some 12 years ago! I guess I’m doing something right! Grateful for my couples and their confidence in and support for me! So much so, they reviewed me on multiple platforms and currently I have over 200 five-star reviews, and have won the Couples’ Choice Award from WeddingWire.
Bonus: And one last one about my business: I leave nothing to chance and live by this motto: “If you’ve failed to plan, you’ve planned to fail”. So ask me about my methodical and rigorous work flow. It’s what my clients love!
