Despite the threat of snow, ice, and rain, Jourdan is a man who knows what he wants. Simply put, he wants Mariah! Never mind that forecasters called for severe weather with a possible accumulation of 3 inches of snow, Jourdan went with his heart. You see, Jourdan met Mariah about 2 years ago on Halloween 2015 at the behest of his sister, just after Jourdan came back from a tour in Afghanistan with the Air Force, and quickly they became a “thing”. And for Jourdan, he wasn’t going to let a little bit of precipitation scare him off.
So on this cold, drizzly, January Saturday, Jourdan planned a surprise engagement proposal to Mariah with the help of his friends Chad and David who live in downtown Annapolis near the naval academy. So we used their place, which overlooked the famed Ego Alley, Pussers, and the Annapolis pier as our base of operations. Jourdan, who along with Mariah live in Annapolis, wanted to get down on a knee right near the flag pole facing Eastport. It was here that Chandra and Lydia (Mariah and Jourdan’s sisters, respectively), along with their mothers, brother, Chad and David prepared a “Free Kittens” sign to draw Mariah to the “kitten” box. Meanwhile, family and friends kept an eye out on the location of the Uber driver to get ready for their arrival. The weather let up and the snows never came and the early morning rains had subsided! All systems GO! This was meant to be!
So how did he get Mariah to join him outside on this cold day? He suggested that they go out for wine at Red Red Wine Bar off of Main Street. At exactly 0345 hours, their Uber driver dropped them off near the pier, and Jourdan, fearing that Mariah may have guessed the surprise, bolted out of the car, grabbing Mariah’s hand, and made a bee line to the “Free Kittens” sign. Instead of kittens, Mariah saw a “Look Behind You” sign inside the box, along with a single rose (and two other familiar faces). Turning around, she found Jourdan on one knee, asking her to be his bride!
To see Mariah’s reaction was a treat. Surprise. Disbelief. Tears of Joy. Afterwards, family and friends came spraying across the boat slips onto the pier which made for even a bigger surprise! Family from Pennsylvania and Ohio were here to enjoy this very special day!
